New Patient Comprehensive Dental Exam
Our comprehensive dental exam is an essential component of preventive dentistry designed to halt the development of oral disease and to keep your mouth healthy. We will start by taking an extensive dental and medical history. We will use digital x-rays to reveal any tooth decay, bone loss, or any other problems. The information we collect will allow us to design any needed preventive or restorative treatments.
We will conduct a periodontal exam to evaluate the condition of your gums and identify the presence of any gum disease. The good news is that the early stages of gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, are reversible.
We will also conduct a tooth by tooth examination to check for the condition of your tooth enamel to determine if your teeth are at risk of developing cavities. We will look out for any decay, chips, cracks, or damage present.
An essential component of your exam is an oral cancer screening. This quick and painless procedure can potentially save your life. Oral cancer, when detected and treated in its early stages, has a very high survival rate.
We will perform a bite analysis to examine your bite (occlusion). A bad bite can result in loose teeth, tooth wear, a painful condition known as a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), and more. Correcting your occlusion will help alleviate discomfort, and will lower your risk of potential problems developing.
We will conclude your comprehensive dental exam with an aesthetic evaluation. We will assess your smile and may recommend treatments including whitening, restoring missing teeth, correcting crooked or misaligned teeth, and more. Our goal is to ensure you enjoy a perfect, confident smile!
Periodic Dental Exams
We recommend that you visit our dental office every six months for a checkup and cleaning. Our periodic exams are designed to care for your teeth and avoid dental problems from developing through prevention, meaning you will need less dental treatments down the road. Keeping up with your appointments will ensure that we identify and treat any problems as they arise.
During your appointment, we will examine your mouth to evaluate the state of your oral health. The examination is similar to that of the new patient comprehensive exam, including dental x-rays to identify and diagnose potential problems, a periodontal exam, a tooth by tooth examination, an oral cancer screening, and a bite analysis.
During your visit, you will also have your teeth cleaned professionally to prevent tooth decay and gum disease from developing. Our dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar leaving your teeth feeling fresh and clean.
